2nd Presidential Debate: Meh Edition

At this point, is anyone even watching the debates anymore? Perhaps they’re like a train wreck, you just can’t turn away (or they’re on every channel). Yet, we still want to know who won and who lost (or just watch Trump implode his campaign in real time {the theory that he’s actually a Clinton plant [ficus?] gets more likely every day}).

But, in case you did miss it, shots were fired on both sides and by the moderators. It started without a handshake, but ended with one. Sure, the town format offered a chance for the candidates to field audience questions, but they rarely answered the actual question and chose, instead, to attack their rival (especially true of Trump).

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump shakes hands with Democratic presidential nominee former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during the town hall debate at Washington University on Oct. 9, in St Louis, Missouri. This is the second of three presidential debates scheduled prior to the Nov. 8th election.

People might think it was bad form for Trump to say he disagreed with Mike Pence, his running mate, on Syrian policy, but, um, they’re people. People disagree.

In the end, we got the question no one wanted answered. We’ve spend the last few months wondering if either candidate could say anything nice about the other. It turns out, one of them can. Hillary offered a nod to Trump’s children while Trump acknowledged that Hillary is a fighter and won’t quit.

Sure, most Republican politicians are jumping ship in the wake of Trump’s implosions. Sure, most dead Democrats are voting for Hillary {as Bernie Sander’s supporters know well, the race is rigged}. At the end of the day, however, you just need to ask yourself one question: Do I really want either of them (what choice do we have)? To choose the lesser of two evils is still choosing evil. And, yet, we got ourselves into this, we just can’t see our way out (much like Trump).

I just wish this year’s election wasn’t a punchline.
