Often times, we hear the expression, “At least you tried” or “You gave it your best shot”. Well, we know what Yoda would say about trying, but what about your best shot (One hundred percent, did you give? Really?)?
All of us have dreams, but most of us [okay, I] have no idea how to achieve them. I mean do you set goals first or seek a dream first? Is a dreaming without goals pointless because you have no way to gauge your progress? Is setting goals without a dream pointless because you won’t be striving toward anything?
At the end of the day, if someone asks you, “Did you give it your best?” how do you want to answer?
If your dream is to be an Olympian, how do you train? One hour a day, once a week? If your dream is to go to space, well, sucks to be you…unless you don’t live in America. Whatever your dream, go out and chase it (but not like a dog chasing cars).
Like the guy who dreamed about more Harry Potter books. So, he wrote them (…wait, isn’t that copyright infringement? [that’s not the point and I’ll be honest, I’m not certain on all the rules regarding fan fiction…or if this qualifies…I suppose that’s a flaw of self-publishing I’ve never really studied]). He didn’t let anything stand in his way, don’t let anything stand in yours (well, except laws and ethics…maybe morality).
Don’t give up on your dreams until you’ve given it 110% day in and day out (for at least a week…maybe a month). Until you know it’s not something you want to work hard for, you’ll never know if you couldn’t do it or if you just didn’t want to do the work (I don’t).
I mean, sure, it’d be nice to just get your dream handed to you. I know I’d like it. I’d love to sit at home and do nothing…wait, I already do. But, unfortunately, unless you have a super rich uncle who loves you more than anyone else, you’re going to have to work. And, you’re going to have to fight for your dreams [if you don’t, who will].
I mean, I fight [and fail] to be funny every day (regular followers know this). I fight and fail to write every day, too. But sometimes, we just need to pick ourselves up, go out, and kick butt. Because no one will hand us anything…but, um, don’t steal it, either, okay?
