Delusions of Grandeur are Just Goals

How many people actually set long term goals?  How many of those long term goals are realistic…at the time they are made?  So often we are told to reach for the stars or to dream big.  What’s wrong with having high self-esteem, too?

Sure, it may not be possible for me to actually become the King of England, but should that stop me from dreaming about it?  Or walking around proclaiming to be the King of England (Queen Elizabeth might take exception to that)?

What sort of message are we giving kids by telling them they can be whatever they want to  be, but when they say they want to be the best basketball player in the world, we just laugh?

Hey, if the world hasn’t crushed your spirit yet (it will, soon), hold tight to your dreams.  Make your dreams your goals and who knows where you’ll end up (the top of the slush pile?)?

There are plenty of people who will cite reasons why you can’t become the king of England. Don’t listen to them.  Surround yourself with people who fawn over you and call you, “Your Majesty”.  That’s what I do (well, if I had friends, I would).
