Have you ever thought how great it would be to get paid for doing nothing? I mean, come on, it’s got to be great, right?
I’ll admit, I’ve spent some time getting paid for doing nothing. And, I’ll freely admit, it is pretty great. There’s only one drawback. It gets boring.
The problem with doing nothing is that there is nothing to distract you to help time pass quicker. If all you do is sit around, there’s nothing to help you pass the time. So, instead of doing nothing, do something.
Anything, will do, really. Read comic books, check your e-mail (if possible), take a nap (but don’t get caught); but really, anything to help pass the time. Unfortunately, often, the best way to pass the time at work is to do work. Which no one likes to do.
But, if you’ve got to put in a work day (and we all do…unless we’re millionaires or heirs to a fortune), the least you can do is help make time fly. There’s only one thing worse than work: boredom.
